Horse owner loses jail appeal

A MAN who was locked up for starving his horse has lost his appeal against his jail term.

A 6-year-old quarter horse had to be euthanized by its owner after the mare became ill in mid-August with what is believed to be West Nile Virus.

Horse owners told to vaccinate animals

State Veterinarian Dr. Robert Ehlenfeldt has recommended horse owners vaccinate against Eastern equine encephalitis and West Nile virus, according to a Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection press release.
